Through Asido, I’ve grown as both a mental health advocate and a systems thinker. I’ve learned how to mobilize teams, work with diverse stakeholders, and apply evidence-based strategies to address the mental health gap among youth in Nigeria. Beyond technical skills, the network helped me find my voice and purpose.
When I first joined the Asido Campus Network, I never imagined the extent to which this community would shape my leadership, deepen my commitment to mental health, and give me a platform to impact lives on a national scale. Today, I reflect with pride on a journey that has been both transformative and empowering.
As the Director of Interventions, I’ve had the privilege of designing and implementing mental health campaigns that reached over 15,000 Nigerian students. From co-leading campus-wide awareness drives to organizing targeted workshops with amazing teammates, I’ve seen firsthand how empathy, knowledge, and strategic action can dismantle stigma and spark change.
One of the initiatives closest to my heart is the "Community At Reach for Support" (CAReS) project, which I co-developed. This program provides discreet, campus-based referrals for students in need of mental health services. Since its inception in 2022, it has connected several students to professional support—some for the very first time in their lives.
Beyond grassroots engagement, I’d also contributed to the narrative through ACN Publications. Leading ACN Publications allowed me to spotlight the lived realities of students, analyze pressing mental health challenges, and amplify evidence-based recommendations. Whether through articles, opinion pieces, or thought-leadership briefs, our work inspired conversations, reflection, and change. These publications have not only expanded our voices beyond the campus space but also helped inform ACN programming, culminating in a script for a stage play to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day.
My Asido story is a testament to what young people can achieve when they’re equipped with the right tools, mentorship, and belief in their potential. I remain committed to advancing mental health equity in Africa, and grateful to Asido for being the launchpad of this mission.
